It's important to keep your browsers up to date, an outdated browser can cause sites not to load correctly, or even render your web browsing incapable. Below is a quick guide on how to keep all of your browsers up to date.
Update Safari on Mojave and Catalina
- Click the Apple Icon
- Click About This Mac
- Click Software Update
If you're using an earlier macOS, such as macOS High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, or earlier, follow these steps to keep it up to date:
- Open the App Store app on your Mac.
- Click Updates in the App Store toolbar.
- Use the Update buttons to download and install any updates listed.
- When the App Store shows no more updates, your version of macOS and all of its apps are up to date.
Update the Google Chrome browser
- Open Google Chrome on your Windows or Mac computer.
- In the upper right corner, click on the "three dots" icon.
- In the resulting drop-down menu, select the Help > About Google Chrome. Opening this page will initiate the update process.
- Once the browser updates, you might need to click on the Relaunch button to reopen Chrome.
If the update fails
- If the update fails, it is recommended that you download and install the latest version of Chrome. Start by opening this site https://www.google.com/chrome/browser
- Click on the Download Chrome button.
- Click on the Accept and Install button.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation of Chrome.
Update the FireFox browser
- On the menu bar click the Firefox menu and select About Firefox.
- The About Firefox window will open. Firefox will begin checking for updates and downloading them automatically.
- When the download is complete, click Restart to update Firefox
FireFox by default is set up to automatically update, however you may still find yourself needing to run an update manually
