How to Upgrade to macOS Catalina

Plug in your device

It takes time to download and install macOS, so make sure that you have a reliable Internet connection and your device is plugged in.

Downloading macOS Catalina

Open the App Store. Click on the Catalina Banner, then click the Download Button.

Begin the installation

  1. After downloading, the installer opens automatically.
  2. Click Continue and follow the onscreen instructions. You might find it easiest to begin installation in the evening so that it can complete overnight, if needed.
  3. If the installer asks for permission to install a helper tool, enter the administrator name and password that you use to log in to your Mac, then click Add Helper.
  4. The installer may notify you of some applications that may not run once upgraded. This typically included Microsoft Office 2011, HoverCam, Epson software, and a few other. We have new versions of these software packages, so you are ok to move forward.

Allow installation to complete

Please allow installation to complete without putting your Mac to sleep or closing its lid. Your Mac might restart, show a progress bar, or show a blank screen several times as it installs both macOS and related updates to your Mac firmware.
